To View Mountains: Day 5 – A Thousand Islands

The power of imagination makes us infinite.” – John Muir

Wilderness has a soundtrack all it’s own.  The singing of birds, the rustle of wind through the trees, the soft babbling of a nearby brook, the calls of marijuana craving hikers – “Doctor!”  But even with such bliss, it’s hard to replace the beauty of a real instrument.  Thankfully, The Kids brought a few.  Out came the nylon stringed guitar and mandolin for a quick morning jam session, and all at once the mood for the day was set.

We hiked on beneath the brow of Banner Peak, making our way to Thousand Island Lake to stop for lunch, take a dip in the beautiful blue waters, and play some more music. Continuing on, we ultimately made our way to Garnet Lake after about 13 miles of hiking for the day.  At a large stable style camp site, the fire crackled as we played and sang together long after the sun went down.
