To View Mountains: Day 17 – Glen Pass

How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains!” – John Muir

Monday, July 27, 2015

We awoke at our Rae Lakes campsite/safe haven to a hefty greeting from the sun. I was feeling more refreshed than I had in weeks.  With a renewed zest for hiking, we climbed Glen Pass with ease, putting 2 miles and 1400′ elevation gain behind us in only and hour.

At the top we enjoyed the view (my camera had died) and then continued downward.  The downhill was steep and rocky, rough on the feet.  At the bottom, it was time for lunch.  With 3 days projected until the finish, food seemed to be getting scarce.  My body had seemed to adapt, I could go further faster, and with less fuel.

We hiked our way as far up Forester Pass as we could, until we found a breathtaking campsite perched on the side of a cliff.  From here we’d be ready for Forester in the morning.  For now, we enjoy the sunset.

~3000′ Elevation Gain
